Community Foundation of the Lowcountry Grant Funds New Explorer Series
Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:55AM The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry awarded the Port Royal Sound Foundation a Program Grant to fund a new Explorer Program for school children in Beaufort County. We are proud to announce that we have completed designing and constructing the new Explorer Program which will be offered to all 8 middle schools in Beaufort County in the winter and spring of 2014.
The Explorer Program includes a complete curriculum resource on the Port Royal Sound - what it is, why it is unique, and what you can do to help protect and conserve it - and a teaching kit with large instructional banners about the Sound, an EnviroScape which is a model of a town that teaches about the effects of pollution in area waters, nautical charts from NOAA for the classroom, maps from the University of South Carolina on area waters, a water quality testing kit, and other exciting teaching tools for middle schoolers to help them learn about the Port Royal Sound.
The Port Royal Sound Foundation will also conduct a training for all interested schools in the fall. A big THANK YOU to the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry for funding this exciting, hands-on project for middle school students in Beaufort County!
